A quick one for the man

I remember him
like a saint in
that rolling chair
in Kent
beard & hair
gone to snow
voice soft &
full of wisdom
He gave me a
pack of smokes
when my bag
came up empty
and hauled me
back to the hotel
that drunk Kent night
just more than
a year ago but now
like an eternity
old hoss has
ridden on to
new ranges
left us wondering
why he went
so soon and
if he'll have
the campfire ready
when we arrive
not too far
behind even
at best
