If you exit this issue of Thunder Sandwich still hungry it's only because
you didn't sit close enough to the table. Show me an 'ezine with more good
quality poetry, prose and art than this and I'll kiss your ass at high noon in Times
Square.
And, you might note, you aren't troubled here with a lot of pop-up banners
and ads like some of those other offerings on the 'Net. I published the first five
issues of TS on one of those freebie sites and I decided that if I couldn't do it right
I would quit. I opted to do it right.
There are a lot of folks new to TS this time around; several of them are
new period, this being their first publication. Over the past few issues I've
attempted to change the direction of this publication to reflect a broader appeal.
Certainly our roots are in underground and post-Beat poetry and that will
always remain true, but the audience for that appears to be diminishing. This
medium has opened up a whole new wave of writers and artists, and readers,
many of whom are too young to care what happened 30 or 50 years ago. There has to
be a way to take them into the fold and yet maintain the ties to the past that so
many of us, myself included, still treasure.
That's what I intend to do and I hope most of the old scouts from the past
will hang with me. Some of them have jumped ship already, but such is their right
right. If they're happier elsewhere, then more power to them.
I should also note that my partner, Haze McElhenny, is now a full co-
editor. For the time being I will still handle the written end and she will
concentrate on graphics and art, but that could very well change in the future.
She is the most competent and hard-working person I've ever had the pleasure
to work with. Without her diligent work, an offering of this magnitude would not
have been possible and I thank her from the bottom of my heart. And, be assured
we're working on other new and exciting features to come in future issues.
Finally, thanks to all the contributors whose work makes this 'zine possible.
And thanks to all the readers who enjoy the work offered, especially those who take the time to say so.
