Poetry
Ave Jeanne

i paint always nothing

hands drip color &
bleed the ground full.
i paint always nothing.

my reds do not see a
language to touch another,
distant are my blues
from any real. yellows
barely survive this
constant rain.

the faces i paint arrive
natural orphans
who pale into anyone’s city.

no loss.

i am not picasso’s child.
i paint always nothing.
my hands drip
color the size of anger
and bleed the ground full.

consider that seeing the world

consider that
seeing the world,
eyes wide open
is unnecessary.

we daily inherit
gray paranoia,
insomnia, headaches,
and stress
the caustic flavor
of despair

pills & weekly therapy
don’t matter any more.
after the blink,
beyond the lurid sleep,
eyes wide open
are catching the
sight of me

ave jeanne was one of the old gang who appeared in the pages of Thunder Sandwich back in the 80's. Since then, her poetry has been widely published throughout the known world, in both literary and commercial magazines, and seven chapbooks. Since establishing Black Bear Review in 1984, ave has served as editor/publisher and in 1996 extended her duties to include savvy webmaster. Black Bear's efforts online have not gone unnoticed; ave claims to receive an occasional e-mail from Emily Dickinson - though she can't seem to recall the late poet's e-ddress at this time...
