EXPOSURE

(years later) ...
the photographs inexplicably resurface
the ones you've forgotten
the ones you willed to have forgotten

you recall having vomited at that time
not the actual spasms or what provoked them
but the aftermath, the stomach contents spilled onto the floor
a canister of exposed 35mm negative film among them
exposed presumably because the "leader" was completely rewound inside the can
and two questions come immediately to mind:
1) how did the film get to be there? how could its physical bulk pass and
re-pass the constriction of your gullet?
2) what images could possibly be sensitized into the film emulsion?

the photographic images now before you
as enigmatic now as back then
they appear to be details of something living
and the thought focused on organic tissue
not unlike that which filled the innards of your mortal coil
But how could this be?
How could this be?


THREE WORLDS

The stillness of the pond
speckled with hulls of floating leaves

while immediately below
the sun sparkles off a circling carp

and the inverse surface above
mirrors clouds flying through tree limbs.
