BECOMING SAGE

At 46 I think
I know most of
what I should
when it comes
to matters
of the soul
Never take a man
at face value
Always wear
clean underwear
incase of
accidental sex
To go from drive
to neutral
when sliding
out of control
and always look
both ways
before sleeping
with a new man

ONE OF THOSE

He walked through life
as if he were always
leading a parade
but I loved the way
that he smelled
and the way his fingers
always knew which
spot of my flesh
could not wait
a second longer
for his touch
It didn't matter
his pompous way
when his mouth
shut silent
around my sigh
I was all averages
Things you ignore
and those you celebrate
The parade
always stopped
at my door

I EXPLAINED

he and I
were never us
Sporadic satiation
better fits
definition
I only told him
what he wanted
to hear
It made things
so much easier
that way
and what I
opened to him
was not
my heart
Indeed
even he
could see
the distance
