Palliative Farewell

She breathes
Again
A struggled dance
in punctuated huffs
and shallow sips of pride
As if the weight
of one final confession
presses her concave chest
Driving each gasp inward
Simmering twitches
Weak convulsions stew
Then melt away
for just a moment
Then two
Then nothing
Is she gone?
Has she left us?
with secret,
sudden,
completed stillness
No
Wait
She sips shallow pride
Huffs punctuated in a dance
of struggle
Again,
she breathes
