AWARENESSING Christmas-New Year time, mainly around the house looking out the glass back wall at the forest and fields, waking up and going to bed with memories of Kansas (wife number two), Mother Grimes and her special gravies and sauces, mashed potatoes made from scratch, home-made cherry and apple pies, Father Grimes always in front of the TV, always another game to watch, him and his Marlboros, the whole house stank from cigarettes but who worried about it, then the divorce from Nona, both her parents dead, hardly thinking about what I had while I had it, going out to Lake Lansing today with Bernadete (wife number three) today and watching the sun set over the frozen lake.....thinking about it. Immortality Slouching down the road, them black slouching shoes and frog-legs a la black-tights carte, rain hits her forehead and it spits like hitting a boiler, spread um here, spread um there, man, and then she's in the mall seventy years later, crunchy-wunchy time, ten years a widow, sex, who? |
